new romantic

i’m so sorry! i know i told you guys i would be updating more regularly, and then i go and stop updating for a few weeks. well, i decided that in the midst of the new apartment (EEK!) and all of the stuff going on with classes, i would put off homework and write about some new artists! let’s see here, where can i begin?

a friend of mine told me about this artist that she heard on TV somewhere, didn’t know anything about her and couldn’t find the songs anywhere, but wondered if i could look for it. i scoured the internetz searching for anything, and was surprised when i came across her work on iTunes. as far as i knew, Laura Marling was fairly obscure, but i was wrong. she is an established artist with a couple of albums out already that are, if i do say, just beautiful. her voice is soft, but it’s strong. she sounds relaxing, but there is something about her voice that is harsh and brass. i think it’s this total fight in her voice, that seems so natural and so organic, that makes listening to her simply breathtaking. i definitely suggest checking her out! you won’t be disappointed.

click here for her iTunes page and here for her MySpace!

hope you all have a wonderful day! here in new york city it’s in the mid-50s and the sun is shining so bright! so, if you’re around here, go out and enjoy it! and wherever you are, make the day count!

hey all!

it’s been a while since i last updated this, but i’m not going to ever let it go as long as i did before. with spring break here and everything, i’m going to try and update this as much as i can. i’ll be home, bored, and sitting on my computer all day anyway, so i might as well do something that someone might get something out of, right? so, i can’t really take credit for discovering the band that i’m about to tell you all about, they sent me a friend request. i don’t usually even check out the bands that request to be my friend or send me mail, but for some reason, i did it this time. and i have to say, they blew my mind. this band is just simply exquisite. they are incredibly fun to listen to, their lyrics are so clever and catchy, and you won’t be able to get the beats out of your head. Menya is my new sweet obsession. and i can’t wait to share them with you!

click here to check out their iTunes page, and here to check out their MySpace page.

i hope this makes your spring break extra dance-y and fun!

best to you all,

i know i haven’t updated this blog in a while, and that makes me super sad. i really want to keep working on this and make it a great music blog and a place for all of you to come and find and discover some new music. so, for this addition, i’m not really going to talk a lot, just give you some great new bands to check out! hope you like them! comment me on here and let me know what you like, what you don’t like, or if you have any music you think i would be interested in! i LOVE getting feedback from you all, so don’t hesitate! -b

Nevershoutnever! – his voice is really easy to listen to, and his songs are instantly catchy and want to make you bop your head. his music is upbeat and basically just fun to listen to. check out one of his albums on iTunes here and his MySpace page here! he doesn’t really have a great MySpace profile as of me writing this, but it should be up soon! so check back often to see when it goes up!

Lenka – i don’t think that Lenka is a very hidden artist. i think she’s really starting to get some good exposure, which is what i want all of my artists that i feature on here to get! this may not be the cover of The Times, but maybe it will help a little bit! Lenka’s voice is beautiful, and her songs just accentuate that even more. she reminds me Ingrid Michaelson (click here for Ingrid’s iTunes and here for her MySpace page) and  Feist (iTunes here and MySpace here). she definitely has a future in music ahead of her, and really, whatever your taste in music, i think you’ll find something to like in what she has to offer! check out Lenka’s self-titled album on iTunes here and her MySpace page here!

ok, i think that’s all i’m going to do for now. check them out, i think you’ll really enjoy what you listen to. hope you all are having a wonderful week and this only just adds to the awesomeness!

hope for the best in all you do!

Earlier today I was in the dark room developing the first of many photographs for my “Portrait Project” and, as usual, I put my iPod on shuffle, letting it work its beautiful magic on me. As I started focusing my pictures in the enlarger, a song came on that really caught my attention, a song I haven’t listened to in a while. It actually got me dancing in the dark room among 5 or so other people who were intent on creating their one true masterpiece. As I listened to this song, I realized I just had to jump on the computer after I was done and let y’all know what it was.

The song, “Exodus Damage,” is by John Vanderslice, from his album Pixel Revolt. It was released in 2005, and is, in my opinion, a song you can play when you just want to relax after a day of work, or dance to in the dark room (possibly even as you study for a big exam or are trying to crunch in those few extra hours at work). It’s an incredibly flexible song that allows it to not only become a recurring song on your “Chill Out” playlist, but also your “Let’s Drink!” and even your “Dance Party” playlists. OK, so that was a little tacky. Apologies.

Anyway, click here to check out his iTunes page, and click here to go to his MySpace page.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day (and enjoys the music!).

Hi! :)

Hi everyone!

My name is Brian. I am currently a student at New York University’s Gallatin School for Individualized Study concentrating in Music Business/Music Promotion and also Photography.

I can remember the first time I bought a cassette tape. It was the Spice Girls. I laid on my kitchen floor listening to the songs over and over again while thinking about the lyrics, the beats, the voices, and how when they are all put together, it makes something so catchy, so wonderful, that you don’t want to stop listening. That something can come together and express the things you never thought you would be able to express, and speak to you in ways you’ve never before been spoken to, amazes me.

Music is everyone’s passion. We all love music, we all have our tastes in music, and we ALL have our opinions on what is good music and what isn’t. I’m not here to tell you WHAT to listen to. All I want to do is perhaps create a discussion about some really good music, maybe introduce you to something you’ve never heard before, and for you to talk to me, as I keep learning every day, and discovering new music all the time.

So, that’s all for now!

To end things, I’ll try and give you a taste of something new in my music world, with what I’m really interested in at the moment, or maybe an old song that never grows old. As I was going through my my library, I came upon a song that I discovered (with the help of my wonderful friend, Bridget) maybe a little less than a month ago. The artist is Katie Herzig, and she’s definitely talented. The song I’m listening to at the moment is “Chase Me” and it is from the album Watch Them Fall. Click here for her iTunes page, and here for her MySpace page. Check it out! I think you’ll be glad you did!

Thanks, everyone!
